FoOD Poker Run 2003 - Oceano Dunes
By: Jim Suty

Friends of Oceano Dunes (FoOD) July 4th Poker Run 2003.

A friend of FoOD suggested that we do a Poker Run as a way to inform duners of the issues at hand, get them familiar with FoOD, raise money and have fun. Knowing the success that the R&R Duners have had at Glamis, we said sure.

Now the hard part came whn we were deciding who would take on this challenge…who would lead the effort to make this a success. Gene Schroeder (FoOD Chairman) stepped up to the plate (much like all the other things Gene has taken on).

Gene contacted Jim Colln from R&R Duners for some advice. Jim was an awesome resource and gladly helped us get pointed in the right direction.

Gene took what he learned from Jim and developed a program which worked perfectly.

Gene hand painted all the signs (including the orange squares), developed the event t-shirt, developed all the games/events for the check stations, printed up flyers and directions, took cinnamon bun orders and much much more!

Gene - GREAT JOB!

Luckily Gene organized many volunteers to make this happen…thank you volunteers!

Ron Hartley was able to get the GRAND PRIZE for the best hand…a set of 4 Pro Comp tires. That is approximately a $700 prize depending what size is picked…upto 35". A big THANK YOU to Pro Comp Tires!!!

We expect this event to grow and grow over time…so make sure you join us for the next one!

When the event was all over, everyone said thy had a great time. And looked forward to next year. FoOD benefited as a result of everyone's hard work!

Of course at the end of the event Gene was a little tired…. 8-)

Please Note - at the time of this writing I did not have the list of sponsors or the names of the winners…I will update this with all the pertinent information as soon as it is possible. I am sorry for the delay!
