Friends of Dumont CLEAN UP - 2003
By Michael Neschke

Dumont Dunes Clean Up

It was a rainy nasty weekend, but we still saw in excess of 150 people out to clean up the trash at Dumont!

I showed up on Friday afternoon to find the guys from V8Rail, Greg and Julia, Richard and Marion and a few others of our gang already playing. This was a strictly work trip for me, I showed up without any toys and a load of trash bags, sign in sheets and prizes. The weather was beautiful and we made the best of the time to enjoy it!

Saturday morning it was raining off and on, mostly on. We went ahead and set up the ez up at the dumpster with tables and prizes. The people started to roll in and sign up with enthusiasm, a refreshing thing given the weather! Every vehicle that rolled past we tried to stop and get involved, for the most part people did.

As the day progressed we saw wierder things being drug in, including a skeleton from somebodys dog!

In all we collected about 22 cubic yards of trash and mad a definate and visable improvement at Dumont. We would like to thank all those who participated and donated to this deserving event! Please help our sponsors by utilizing their services when you can.

I would also like to personally thank Mano and Rose from the Barstow BLM. This guy must have been drinking Red Bull by the gallon. Every 30 minutes like clock work he was back with a load of trash. Hopefully you will never have to meet Mano while he is working, he is the EMT out there. Rose is the volunteer coordinator for Barstow BLM and she brought out 4 kids with troubled backgrounds serving community service. These kids did a wonderful job of pitching in! I do encourage everyone to drop in and thank the BLM and Sherriffs dept for the hard work they do on a regular basis.

I am sure I am leaving out a lot of details from the clean up, but we, the Friends of Dumont, wish to extend our pure gratitude to all those who participated. For more information and to get involved with the Friends of Dumont, please see our website at DUMONTSANDDUNES.ORG
