Coral Pink Sand Dunes, UT August 2002
By Michael Neschke

In August we snuck out of the 120+ degree weather in Vegas to go play in the beautiful pink sand dunes of Utah. This was a spur of the moment trip with the folks from V8Rail, my wife, Rustin, Brian and Ryan, a proud owner of the first 4 seat V8Rail.

Coral Pink is about 4 hours from Las Vegas, so a short trek through the hot desert and we arrived to virtually empty dunes. The meadow had only about 6 other groups camping and we only saw people in the dunes when we were close to the camping areas.

Saturday was full of riding, even my wife Grachelle put a couple hours on her Raptor! As a matter of fact she jumped a peak (unwillingly of course!) and we caught it on film, she was a star of the Sand Sports Super Show video provided by V8Rail. After a hard days worth of riding, we were all famished and returned to camp for Fondu, prepared by Margaret and Benny Frei, parents of Thomas and Stephan. That night was a clash of cultures. Bud light and fondu, quite a combination!

That same night we had some unfortunate news of a rider being injured out in the dunes on a banshee, shortly there after we saw the helicopter landing on the street that runs next to the meadows. That is a site in itself to see a helicopter landing on the street!

This was a very relaxing weekend, especially for me since I had been doing nothing for fun besides working on my house remodel since February. Unfortunately since this weekend it has been increasingly difficult to get back in the groove of working on the house!
