Jeep Jamboree, Dumont Dunes - January 2002

By: Mike Neschke

Jeep Jamboree 2002

Another year and this event keeps on pleasing! With hillclimbs all day saturday, sand drags all day sunday and some of the best riding with friends and family, how can anyone not enjoy their time at Dumont sand dunes on a Presidents Day Weekend?!

FlyinBowtie trekked all the way down from the great cold north to see what all the hype was all about, it was great to sit and talk with him for the brief amount of time we had to spend. He is very insightful to many things and comes at the issues facing the sand duning community in a new refreshing direction. This insight was extremely helpful as the Friends of Dumont AKA FoDD (website in progress) held their first board of directors meeting with the BLM. A very special thanks to FBT!

All parties involved with the BOD of FoDD were extremely anxious to solve the problems that Dumont were facing, however, I will elaborate at another time as to the board members and their titles at another time. I just need to say thank you to Stephan and Thomas Frei, Richard and Marion Janzen, Mike Ahrens and the rest of our little camping group for taking the time out of a holiday weekend to do a little work!

These pictures were all shot by Event Photo, thanks to them I was able to ride and enjoy my weekend while they slaved away behind a camera getting some great racing action! Thanks Guys!

Enough of my rambling, the weekend was incredible as the pictures of the racing action will show. Unfortunately I sit here at 2AM after spending the past 4 days moving and trying to get my new house ready to be inhabited...very long story, if you want to hear it, stop me in Dumont and I will be glad to share. A round of applause to everyone in the Las Vegas Jeep Club for another spectacular and successful event!
